Frequently Asked Questions

I'm new to Willamette Sky Counseling

How will counseling help me?
It really depends on what you want to get out of the counseling, but it is rare that you will leave without feeling a positive change. For some clients counseling helps them solve a specific problem so that they can move forward with increased confidence. For other clients, counseling helps them transform their relationships and their lives.

I want to schedule an appointment. How do I get started?
  • Look through our website to see our therapists, services, and fees.
  • Call 541-600-2034 to talk to our scheduling team. During this first call, you will be asked for your insurance information, if you are interested in TeleTherapy or an Office Appointment, and what you are looking for.
  • We will check your insurance benefits, reach out to you via email with that information (including your fees), and continue with the scheduling process. We will provide you an estimate for private pay fees and out of network fees for a year based on weekly visits. (Your actual fees may vary based on your number of visits.)
  • You will be asked to complete a few forms, which will need to be finished prior to your appointment. These will include confidentiality, questions about you, and a financial statement. Information about confidentiality acknowledges your rights and responsibilities in therapy.
  • You will receive a reminder about your appointment with the date and time, location, and your therapist's name.
  • Completed paperwork confirms your appointment.

During your first visit you can expect:
  • To be asked some questions about yourself and what brought you to therapy.
  • To feel listened to and comfortable talking with the therapist. We want you to feel free to express yourself and talk about what is important to you.
  • At the end of the session, we will talk with you about what you hope to accomplish by coming to therapy and discuss a plan to help you. This may include continuing meeting with the therapist on a regular basis, additional resources, or a referral to  another specialist who may be better able to help you.

Find the right therapist for you.
It’s easy to find a counselor, but perhaps more difficult to know if you’ve found the right therapist for you. There are a number of questions you can ask us to help you to choose a counselor. Here are a few questions to get you started:
  • What does it feel like for you to sit with the therapist?
  • What’s the counselor’s approach to therapy?
  • Does the counselor seek regular peer consultation?
  • Has your counselor done his or her own therapy?
  • Does the counselor encourage dependence or independence?
  • Does the counselor belong to a professional association and its code of ethics? Read the AAMFT code of ethics.

What if my therapist is not a fit for me?
Feeling comfortable with your therapist is one of the most important elements of therapy. Sometimes we just don't quite click with certain people, and that's okay. Therapists understand this and won't be offended if you want to see someone else. If feel like your current therapist isn't the right fit, let us know, and we can get you scheduled with one of our many other providers.

Covid-19

What is Willamette Sky doing to reduce the spread of Covid-19 and help keep our community safe?
Our experienced therapists are here for you and your family during this uniquely difficult time. As we all adjust to our 'new normal' working from home, studying and learning online and caring for and connecting with loved ones from a distance, your mental health remains a priority at Willamette Sky. We are now offering secure Teletherapy appointments on a HIPAA approved video platform.

To help reduce the threat of COVID-19, Willamette Sky is closely monitoring the situation and has been implementing the health and wellness guidelines from the Oregon Health Authority and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - practicing social distancing,  maintaining daily office hygiene, and providing Teletherapy.

Teletherapy helps protect you and our community and is ideal for any concerned citizen, and those concerned about or exhibiting the following symptoms:
  • Sore throat
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Fever
  • Dry cough
  • Squeezing feeling in the chest/lungs

How does Teletherapy work?
The Teletherapy video technology is easy to use, and an effective way to stay in touch with your therapist.  It is HIPAA compliant, with no additional cost.
Before your Teletherapy appointment, you will receive an email with a link to login. You will be asked to type in your name and wait until your therapist joins you.

If you are a current client, we request that you communicate with your therapist about Teletherapy as an option. For new clients please make this request during your initial phone call or online booking request, and our Office Manager will schedule you with the appropriate therapist and help you set up your Teletherapy appointment.

Insurance Coverage & TeleTherapy:
More and more insurance providers in OR are covering Teletherapy. We can help you through the process of determining if your insurance covers this service.
