My practice is committed to helping you explore what feels fractured in your life, find or re-connect with what feels "right", and make meaningful changes that will help move you forward.  I believe that change, despite the weight of history, is entirely possible.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and nationally registered Art Therapist, and my approach to therapy is closely aligned with current research on brain functioning and best-practice treatment.  Alongside my therapy work over the past two years, I have also been involved in the creation of A Penny For Your Thoughts: a survival kit for kids & adults, a playful communication card game.  I consider myself a seasoned clinician, a straight-forward communicator, and a sincere encourager of living well.  I am also a mother, wife, sister, friend, and daughter - all of which I learn more from everyday.

Qualifications:
  • BFA from University of Georgia, 2000
  • Master's degree in Counseling/Art Therapy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, 2004
  • 2004-2008:  Worked as a therapist in the states of IL. and TN. with focus on helping individuals and families, both in non-profit and private practice settings
  • EMDR training, 2007
  • Moved to Oregon and began practicing in non-profit mental health 2009, with a transition  back into private practice in 2012

Whether you suffer from depression, anxiety, pain, or even devastating illness or loss(es); it is our thought patterns, refusal to accept reality, and unhealthy habits that often magnify such troubles into catastrophes. By learning how to befriend yourself and work with your mind in constructive ways, you'll not only cope better, but can grow from such troubles, which are often teachers, or doorways to higher levels of wisdom if we seek the messages encased in them. Stop hiding from your life and take the leap with me! 'Chaos should be regarded as extremely good news.' --Chogyam Trungpa

Blending spirituality with evidence based practice such as Mindfulness and Compassion practices, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, I help you to access your deepest wisdom to overcome problems and grow from them. I use Harm Reduction Psychotherapy, Mindful Recovery or 12-step to help you overcome mild addictions. I am not a CADC. I welcome and am experienced with LGBTQIA-identified clients, familiarity with trans issues and resources, welcoming and celebrating gender-fluid and non-binary people.

None of us are perfect; but we share perfect imperfection. Instead of an "expert" stance, I believe that being my down-to-earth self (which includes extensive training and experience) is what helps you feel safe and able to open and heal, thus discovering your true, best self."

I approach each client as a unique individual and draw from a variety of modalities to meet your specific needs. I incorporate Art Therapy, Play Therapy, EMDR-Trauma Support, Body-Centered Mindfulness Techniques, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Parenting Support into my work.

I received my Master’s Degree from Naropa University in 2004 in Art Therapy and Transpersonal Counseling Psychology. Over the past 15 years I have worked in a variety of settings and with a wide range of ages from infants all the way to adults confronted with end of life issues. I have worked for many years with very young children and their families who have experienced early physical, sexual, emotional or birth trauma and neglect. I served for over 10 years as an early childhood mental health consultant in Denver area preschools where I guided teachers and families to understand how to make sense of challenging behavior in young children.

I have also provided therapy to middle and high school-aged adolescents and their families over the past decade helping repair family connection and communication. I have taught numerous parenting classes and offered art therapy groups to kids and adults alike. I have worked extensively with adults who have experienced trauma both during childhood and in their adult lives and through the use of EMDR and art therapy have helped them make meaning out their experiences and find healing resolution.

Qualifications
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the States of Oregon and Colorado and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Washington. I hold a national certification as a Registered Art Therapist and a Certified Level II EMDR Clinician. I also am a Certified Yoga Instructor and work with clients both in English and Spanish.

My style is influenced by the work of Brené Brown, who writes, "We are all made of strength and struggle." I am a cheerleader in the best sense of that word; I will encourage you to acknowledge and build upon your strengths and support you through your struggles. I am passionate about helping people move towards self-acceptance and away from shame and self-doubt. I strive to be authentic, compassionate, and respectful, and to foster a relationship where you feel genuinely seen, heard, and understood.

I work well with people who are grappling with: ~depression ~anxiety ~identity or role shifts ~relationship difficulties ~life transitions ~grief and loss ~low self-esteem

I believe in the healing power of play and creativity, and infuse my work with humor, spontaneity, and imagination. I am trained in many styles of therapy, from expressive arts to clinical, "evidence-based" styles like CBT. We can try on numerous hats until we find those that "fit" best.

Qualifications
  • Master of Arts- Counseling. 2013, Antioch University Seattle.

I am a Licensed Couples and Family Therapist with over 15 years of experience counseling individuals, families and romantic partners. My training is in systemic theory/issues that include how an individual relates to the world and those around them based on their background, culture, life experiences, childhood/upbringing, life stressors, and their mental health capacity/reaction to the changes and stressors around them. I have worked in residential settings; outpatient settings that focused on children, adults and families; as well as college student populations. I have extensive experience working with Trauma survivors and more recently Veterans and those with minor substance abuse issues. My research experience and interactions with clients has shown that mental and behavioral health issues have either a genetic link or a systemic link; or commonly the interaction between the two. In either case, one can greatly benefit from counseling services to create the change they are desiring to live healthier and happier.
Populations & Approach
I have worked with children, adolescents, adults and aging adults on a variety of issues with a basic premise that a person needs to be “whole” in mind, body and spirit (not religiously defined) to feel empowered and able to handle the ups and downs that life naturally brings. My approach is strength based to support an individual/family to reconnect and identify their internal skills to help improve their circumstance.

My counseling techniques include a blend of Acceptance (ACT) based therapy; Motivational Interviewing (MI); Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT); Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT); Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); Solution Focused (SFT); and a variety of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills along with Gottman influenced relational work. The combination of these evidenced based therapies allows for one’s mind; actions; and core identity to be engaged throughout the counseling process.
