Suzanne McDonald, LMFT, Therapist
In my work as a therapist I see my role as a collaborative guide helping you to navigate your life’s challenges, providing you with a fresh perspective of your life narrative and then following your lead in establishing goals and fostering meaningful change.
When I think of how best to serve my clients, I'm reminded of how the birth of my first daughter was the most profound event of my life—the birth itself and beginning the journey of being a parent. They were profound, yet not without pain. To say that pain was not involved wouldn’t be the truth. But, life itself has both times of pain and times of joy—the challenge is learning how to be able to “sit” with both. Becoming a new parent also instilled in me and my works as a therapist, the value of support and the foundation it can help bolster—as a new parent, as a couple, as a family, and as an individual making your way in this sometimes challenging world.
I am a supportive, strength-based therapist, and work to create a safe, nurturing environment for my clients. Whether you are an individual, couple or family, I honor your innate strengths and wisdom and we will work together to help you recognize and enrich those, so you may walk your individual path of life. I love working with individuals, couples/families, and women of all ages, giving counsel, helping you to create community in your life and offering support, especially during the many transitions that life brings us. In our work together, we may use self-compassion, mindfulness and the works of Brene Brown. . My resolve is to support you to live life as your authentic whole-hearted self!
I have a thirst for all types of knowledge including; self-help, therapy, parenting, gardening, cooking, health, spirituality, homeopathy, and arts and crafts. Perhaps my two favorites books are the dictionary and the thesaurus—a word nerd! I love the world of nature and all who live in it and treat both with reverence. I love Dances of Universal Peace, story telling, creating ceremony/ritual/tradition/passageways, singing, and walking the labyrinth. When I'm not working, I appreciate snow, watching birds, swimming in a warm ocean, sitting by a fire, spending time with family and friends, and playing with my silly labradoodle. I look forward to learning about you too.
