Coming to therapy is an act of bravery and hope; it can feel daunting to embark on this path. With this in mind, my first priority is to create a therapeutic environment that is safe, warm, respectful, and nonjudgmental for every person. I view therapy as a collaborative process, a partnership wherein we create the conditions for positive change to occur. I firmly believe that the person is not the problem: you are neither broken nor permanently stuck in unhealthy patterns. You are a whole person who is coping with what life throws at you in the best way you know how at the moment. Much of my work with you will be to access, support, and strengthen the resources that already exist within you to find a balance between tending to individual needs and nurturing healthy relationships.
In my practice with individuals, we will examine outdated personal narratives and patterns of interaction that may interfere with your present relationship to self and others, then use the tools honed in the therapeutic process to uncover your ability to effect positive change in your life. As a relational therapist for romantic partnerships and families, I will assist in identifying patterns of behavior that are no longer serving your relationship, facilitate mutual understanding of emotional context that informs conflict and distance between loved ones, and help you to remove obstacles to healthy communication and intimacy.
