Certified American Sign Language Interpreter - I would be happy to work with those who communicate most comfortably in ASL.
I truly believe that each of us has the ability to heal ourselves, to live a meaningful and joy filled existence, and learn to love, honor, and celebrate ourselves. Of course, there are a multitude of barriers to this way of living- trauma, self-doubt, painful relationships, grief, loss, disconnection and loneliness can leave scars on our hearts and minds that effect our behaviors, our relationships, and how we regard ourselves. I believe that choosing to seek therapy is a radical act of self-love. The first step in a journey that may not always be easy, but can allow you to more consciously create the life you desire. This gift of introspection and healing is one only you can give yourself, and I am honored to walk beside those who choose this path.
Though I draw from a number of theories and techniques, I am always strengths based and trauma informed in my practice. I often draw from Dialectical Behavior Therapy, neurobiology, mindfulness, and self-compassion, and I hope to always be learning more to best support those I work with.
I am a Washington native, but have lived a number of places throughout Oregon and California. I received my Bachelors in Deaf Studies from Cal. State, Northridge then moved back to the Northwest to get my Masters in Social Work from Portland State University, with a focus on social justice and community based social work. I have done work in criminal justice settings and community non-profits but worked primarily in higher education in a number of roles- supporting first-generation college students, teaching life skills and emotional intelligence, and assisting employees with disabilities with accommodations. I have previously presented on The Science of Self-Talk, Neurobiology of Trauma, and Mindfulness and Working Cross-Culturally. I am a life-long learner who enjoys travel, crocheting, yoga, my nieces and nephew, adventures with my partner, all night talks and laughing until my cheeks hurt.
